When children have been removed from a parent’s care in a child protective case, there are many reasons why it can be helpful for the parent to undergo a psychological evaluation. For example, insight can be gained regarding factors that precipitated the family disruption in the first place, as well as potential barriers to improvement. Perhaps most importantly, a psychological evaluation can help determine what kinds of changes the parent would need to make in order to create a safe an stable environment for the children.
When issues come to light that need to be addressed, I am committed to offering recommendations that provide the best case scenario for the child or children involved. This often includes providing a roadmap for parents to follow to improve their parental capacity. As a parent myself, I understand that we are always learning and every parent could stand to improve in some ways. Some of my most fulfilling work has been helping parents make the changes necessary to offer their children a safe and stable environment where they can thrive.
